Drying up Milk

breasts grew only a little
(we both spoke in broken Hebrew because she was French)
I think she explained she has hyperthyroidism and takes something called etoxin medication for it
she has lots of pain nursing now
nursed first for only 1.5 months
wants to nurse only now for the colostrum and not anything after so wanted me to show her how to get good latch now that doesn't hurt and then help drying up her milk. She requested to wait the full 24 hours after delivery to then take the pills to stop breastfeeding. I explained that she can't nurse after she takes the pills and to put cabbage leaves on her breasts and she can drink mint.
I wasn't Able to show her another latch because the doctor asked me to leave butis this normal? that the mothers want to nurse only for colostrum and nothing after? What is the best advice to give? She seemed really confused and wanted me to choose for her. I obviously didn't. Also how long does it typically take for the pills to kick in and dry up the milk? When is the best time to take it? I know you are not allowed to nurse for 8-10 hours after taking the medicine. Right?x

Also – is there any issue taking the pills while on birth control? She seemed to be concerned about that but I couldn't understand why
