Fully natural/unmedicated and quick delivery but cord was wrapped twice around the neck
Mom was complaining that her left side hurt a lot every time baby latched on
I checked the suction of the baby and his mouth
He has a tongue that is long and always outside of his mouth (I am actually not sure if that is important – I would like to know) His suck was very strong
When he latched onto the right side she said it would hurt for a second and then the pain would go away but on the left side it would stay the whole time. She didn't look like she was comfortable and she said its because of the pain. I asked for her to try a different position just for the left side so we tried football and she said it was much better but still hurt a tremendous amount. The latch seemed really good to me too. But she said she will probably be able to manage temporarily doing football on the one side until the pain subsides. I didn't see any wound on the nipple but she said there was one yesterday with a little blood.
When he would unlatch the nipple would come out a little flat.
Also her grip on him was really strong and pushed right up against him and when I tried to relax her to hold him a little looser she wasn't as interested in hearing it from me.
We discussed breastfeeding. management and was very grateful for that because she says she still forgets even after 10 kids.
